Take the Lightning Protection Survey and you could win a Surface Pro 3
This month through June 24, Lightning Eliminators, along with several other sponsors are participating in a Survey facilitated by the International Lightning Technology Institute (ILTI). We believe it is important for all industries to participate in the Survey and consider their lightning protection risk and take a proactive approach towards lightning risk mitigation planning. Each person who participates will automatically be entered for the chance to win a MS Surface Pro 3…take me to the survey!
Our hope is that this survey will get you thinking about your facilities/company’s lightning protection for many reasons outlined below.
“The Studies say so! Are you prepared?”
For years Lightning Eliminators & Consultants, Inc. (LEC) has been saying that lightning is on the rise. Our articles start as early as 2012 and continue. While we had no scientific proof of this, and just an errant report or study here and there to point to which would loosely support our observations, we could not state it as fact, only opinion. Our claims were controversial and received some scowling, irritated utterances and scolding from our scientific and professorial associates, as well as our competitors. As of the past 18 months we have been vindicated and may we suggest that you, the electric power industry, take notice.
On October 11, 2013 the Lightning Eliminators blog “To Strike or Not to Strike, that is the Question: Is there more lightning or am I imagining it?”, reviewed our theories . It referenced most of the previous blogs on the subject, however this time included a study by Scherer of Stanford Trapp of Purdue (published in the New York Times). This was the first study which gave us a little bit of hope that our own investigation was not just speculation. In October 2014 Science Magazine published a study done by Romps, Seeley, Vollaro, and Molinari from Berkeley which “Projected increase in lightning strikes in the United States due to global warming” further supporting our findings. Lightning is increasing and Electric Power Facilities should be prepared as reviewed in our blog “Lightning Protection: Operations Down: Power Off!”
Lightning season is just around the corner in the Northern Hemisphere. Now is the time to inspect, maintain, review and implement. Don’t wait until an incident happens. It is too late and can cost millions of dollars covered in “Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance”
Come visit Lightning Eliminators at the Electric Power Conference and Exhibition, April 21-23, 2015 in Rosemont, IL at Booth 1037 to discuss your options with one of our engineers.
